Welcome! My name is Claire and I’m a Potter/Maker.
Myself along with my husband, Darren and our pottery dog, Tilly run my pottery studio just outside Ballymoney, located in North Antrim, Northern Ireland.
My journey began when I left school in 2013 and I was so unsure what I wanted to do! With my high school putting pressure on me to apply for a degree in psychology at university I wasn’t happy. After many conversations with my parents they encouraged me to apply for something completely different to “find my way”, so I applied to the local college to study a foundation degree in Art where, with the help of a tutor, I found my love of ceramics. After I had completed a year there, I moved on to the Ulster University in Belfast where I studied ceramics for 4 years. During this time I learned the basics of how to make on the pottery wheel, how to hand build, work and load a kiln and glaze ceramics.
After I graduated in 2018, my parents encouraged me to use a disused pump house which we called the Waterhouse to continue to make whilst I saved money working several part time jobs in coffee shops, ceramic studios and as a warehouse worker. I owe my parents so much and I am incredibly grateful they encouraged me to keep pursuing my dream of becoming a full time potter/maker.
In 2023, with the encouragement and support of lots of friends and family, I achieved my dream and made the leap to fulltime.
I want to thank every person who has purchased any of my work over the years to help fuel my dream and sharing in this adventure with us. I hope you discover the joy that comes with owning handmade pottery.
My hope in the near future is that I will share my knowledge with others in the form of pottery lessons/classes.
Thank you,
Claire
